Commercial gas lines and equipment in Toronto

Jackman Mechanical Ltd. installs, repairs and maintains gas lines and gas equipment for restaurants, shops and buildings in Toronto, North York, Mississauga, Markham and Ajax: a line for new kitchen equipment, a line moved in a fit-out, a heater hookup, or a repair, with 24/7 emergency repairs by phone. A gas smell is never a request: get everyone out and call Enbridge Gas from outside.

Smell gas in the building? Get everyone out.

Enbridge Gas says to evacuate the premises immediately, leaving doors and windows open behind you if you can do it without delay. Once everyone is safely away, call its 24-hour emergency line at 1-866-763-5427 or 911 (Enbridge Gas). Call us for the repair after.

What does a commercial kitchen gas line look like?

Illustration of a commercial kitchen gas line A tagged gas header runs along the ceiling of a commercial kitchen from a main shutoff valve. It drops to three pieces of cooking equipment in a row (a range, a fryer and a griddle), each through its own shutoff valve. GAS GAS GAS MAIN SHUTOFF SHUTOFF RANGE FRYER GRIDDLE

A tagged header runs from a main shutoff along the ceiling and drops to each piece of equipment through its own shutoff. When a range, fryer or griddle is added, moved or replaced, the drop, the shutoff and the connection are the work. Photos of the equipment's rating plate and of the existing header show us what is there.

Who may install commercial gas equipment in Ontario?

The TSSA says maintenance of fuel-fired appliances must be performed by TSSA-registered contractors, and that registered contractors must hire TSSA-certified gas technicians (TSSA). Registered fuels contractors are, in the TSSA's words, the only businesses legally authorized to do fuels-related work in Ontario (TSSA). More in the gas work guide.

What will the request form ask?

Questions on the request form for gas line or appliance problems
QuestionThe choices
What is it for?BBQ · Stove · Dryer · Heater · Something else

Photos that help. The most useful are where the appliance will go, and your gas meter.

For a business, choose "Something else" when the equipment is not on the list, and name it in the description: the make and model, and where it will go. Attach the rating plate photo.

Are there homes in the building?

If people live above or beside the business, the Government of Ontario's carbon monoxide rules for homes apply to them, including a home heated by air from a fuel-burning appliance outside it (Government of Ontario). The alarm guide covers where the alarms go.

Jackman Mechanical prices each job directly with you; no prices are published on this site.
