What will the request form ask about the boiler?
The same three questions as for a furnace; choose "Boiler (radiators or floor)" for the first. The most useful photo is the label inside the boiler's door or cover, and any code on its display.
| Question | The choices |
|---|---|
| What heats the home? | Furnace · Boiler (radiators or floor) · Not sure |
| How old is it? | Under 5 years · 5 to 10 years · Over 10 years · Not sure |
| What is it doing? | Not coming on · Some rooms cold · Blinking light or code · Noisy |
Photos that help. The most useful are the label inside the furnace or boiler door, and any blinking light or code.
How does a hot water heating loop work?
The boiler heats water, a circulator pump moves it up to the radiators or the floor and back, and an expansion tank, an air separator and a relief line keep the loop at a safe pressure. Rooms cold at the far end of the loop, banging or gurgling, or a pressure reading that keeps dropping all point to different parts, so say which you see.
Which rules apply to a gas boiler in Ontario?
- Who may work on it. The TSSA says maintenance of furnaces and fuel-fired appliances must be performed by TSSA-registered contractors, with TSSA-certified gas technicians (TSSA).
- A yearly inspection. The Government of Ontario asks owners to have fuel-burning appliances, chimneys and vents cleaned and inspected by professionals every year (Government of Ontario).
- Carbon monoxide alarms beside each sleeping area and on every storey, under the same page. See the alarm guide.
- A permit to replace it in Toronto. Toronto Building lists a boiler or furnace replacement in a single-family house at $214.79 flat in 2026 (City of Toronto).
Do you work on boilers in apartment and commercial buildings?
Yes. Multi-boiler plants and building heating loops are on the commercial heating page, and landlords should read the rental heat guide. Jackman Mechanical prices each job directly with you; no prices are published on this site.
